Visitor Application Fee Waiver Policy

The Institute for Ethics in AI Director has the authority to exempt visitor application fees for exceptional candidates meeting the following criteria.

  • Applying from a low-income country
  • Refugees and displaced persons
  • UK applicants from low-income backgrounds

Applying from a low-income country

If you are a resident of a low-income country in the list of eligible countries below and cannot pay the visitor fee, you can request a waiver of this fee.

The request must be submitted along with your application form to aiethics@philosophy.ox.ac.uk.

To be eligible for this application fee waiver, you must meet all of the following criteria:

  • Your country of ordinary residence is one of the eligible countries below.
  • You would be unable to apply for visitor status without an application fee waiver.
  • You meet the entry requirements for visitor status.

If you indicate on your application form that you are a resident in one of the eligible countries below, you will be asked additional questions. If your answers indicate you are eligible for this waiver, you won't be asked to pay the fee.

Refugees and displaced persons

If you are or were a refugee, stateless person, asylum seeker, or have been otherwise forcibly displaced within or outside your country of origin, you are eligible for a visitor fee waiver as long as you meet the requirements.

To request this waiver, send the details in an email with your application documents.

UK applicants from low-income backgrounds

You will be asked to submit supporting evidence that your gross household income is below £35,000 per year.

When to request it

You must submit your request for a fee waiver when completing your application and send supporting documentation in an email along with the other supporting documents relevant to your application to aiethics@philosophy.ox.ac.uk.
