We are pleased to welcome Teun Toebes, International Care Innovator, to talk to us about his groundbreaking work into reframing narratives of life with dementia. Teun will be drawing on hopeful examples from his travels around the world together with filmmaker Jonathan de Jong and emphasize on what dementia can teach us about humanity. The lecture will be introduced by Mary Daly, Professor Emerita of Sociology and Social Policy at the University of Oxford, with a snapshot of the current context of social care in the UK and followed by a fireside chat with Dr Caroline Green, Director of Research and Public Engagement at the Institute for Ethics in AI, on the role of AI in caring for people living with dementia.

Dr Caroline Emmer De Albuquerque Green is the Institute’s Director of Research and Head of Public Engagement, leading the Institute's Accelerator Fellowship Programme. Caroline's research focuses on AI and human rights, specifically in the fields of health and social care. Caroline holds a LLB (Hons) from the University of Edinburgh, an MSc in Human Rights from the LSE, a MA in Investigative Journalism from City University and a PhD in Gerontology from King's College London. 
Teun Toebes (27) is an international care innovator with a mission to improve the quality of life for people with dementia worldwide. At the age of 21, he decided to live in the closed ward of a nursing home for three and a half years. This gave him first-hand experience of the need for a different narrative on dementia and a better way of living together. To take his mission to the next level, together with filmmaker Jonathan de Jong, he travelled the world for the globally acclaimed independent documentary Human Forever, and wrote two international bestselling books: The Housemates and Human Forever. Toebes holds a degree in nursing, care-ethics and policy and is still rooted in the practice of care. 
Mary Daly is Professor Emerita of Sociology and Social Policy at the University of Oxford. She is a Fellow Emerita of Green Templeton College Oxford where she leads the Care Initiative. Her work is comparative, in a European and international context. She has studied care and care systems from different perspectives, including the different ways in which countries support care through their health and social policies, how they approach system reform, the ethics of care and the gender and other inequalities that are part and parcel of many care systems.
